Soon the German streets will be filled with commuters traveling by e scooter. Germany already has a good list of micro mobility e scooter sharing providers like Lime, TIER, Bird, etc. at a reasonably affordable price. But, is it cheaper to rent or to own an e scooter?

How much are the average e scooter rental costs?

The rental price for e scooters starts from € 0.15 per minute. In which case, the x10 costs breakdown would look as follows;

  • € 1.50 per 10 minutes,
  • € 15.00 per 100 minutes,
  • € 150.00 per 1000 minutes and so on.

Now, if the average daily commute time was 30 minutes, then what would be the costs?

  • € 4.50 per 30 minutes within a period of 1 day,
  • € 45.00 per 300 minutes within a period of 10 days,
  • € 135.00 per 900 minutes within a period of 30 days and so on.

Note: This does not include the € 1 charge every time you unlock a bike before starting a trip.

So, daily e scooter sharing users could probably end up paying enough in 2 months to own one themselves. Obviously, not owning a e scooter but still being able to conveniently use it to travel by means of rental services has its own perks. Let’s not forget, owning an e scooter has its own perks too.
